Curriculum

Programs and strategies being implemented by Shepparton East Primary School to promote student engagement, high attendance and positive behaviours are:

  • We are a Primary Maths and Science Specialist School teaching Science from Prep to Year 6 via our Enquiry Curriculum. This includes learning the skills of research, experimentation, coding and robotics. Students have access to a range of STEM equipment such as B-Bots, Sphero, LEGO Mindstorm and Ozobots.
  • The performing arts program including: class music and drama lessons, choir, private music lessons for singing, piano and guitar, school concert, Victorian State Schools Spectacular, Super Star, weekly class sessions in visual arts, Art Activity Days and Cultural Performances.
  • Receiving awards including: Reward Days, Principals Award, Kiwanis Terrific Kids Award, SPOTTO charts, SPOTTO certificates, end of year Citizenship Award and Academic Excellence Award for year 6 students, end of year Literacy Award, sporting recognition, attendance certificates, special events, classroom prize boxes and stickers.
  • Camps, whole school and local excursions involving Years Prep to 6.
  • Physical education program including: weekly class P.E. sessions, PMP, senior sport, swimming and athletics programs, Interschool and Zone sport, cross country, Jump Rope for Heart, Auskick, weekend sports which include cricket, soccer and netball and house sports competitions.
  • School environment including: shaded playing areas, senior learning area, ample play equipment, soccer, football and cricket facilities, library area, Multi Purpose Room, outside seating.
  • Buddy system for Prep and Year 5 students.
  • Student leaders including: School Captains, House Captains, Junior School Councillors, and Year 6 Care Teams.
  • Parent involvement including: Hearing reading, Parents’ and Friends’, fundraising, camps and excursions, weekend sport, special activity days, concert props and costumes, book covering and other incidental activities.
  • Specialist Areas and teacher rotations: Library, Art, Science, P.E., Music and Performing Arts. 
  • School Wide Positive Behaviours System.
  • Literacy and Numeracy Leaders.
  • Lunchtime activities: sports, music, craft, library, games in the outdoor eating areas.
  • Education Support Staff: reading, Literacy Intervention, tables, numeracy testing, IT support.
  • Outside of School Hours program.
  • Cross-age activities eg. Arts Activity Day, Rewards Days, Junior School Council Activities
  • Information Technology — iPads for Year 3-6, computers and iPads in classrooms, Interactive Whiteboards in every classroom and access to digital technologies.
  • Restorative Practices.
  • Investigations program Prep – Year 2
  • Chaplaincy program and breakfast club.
